Weaving Humanity

If humanity was a fabric,
human beings would be the threads,
and the fabric is as strong as the weakest thread.

Description

We live in a time where as a specie we are more interlocked than ever. Even though globalization is one of the causes, it might also be the solution to the upcoming challenges. New generations are the future leaders and they should be educated to recognize this cultural diversity. Universities play an important role in this, waving a portrait of co-operation and mutual understanding. During my studies in Denmark I had the chance to interact with students from all over the world, which broadened my view about other cultures and made me realize the similarities we all have independently of our origin.

The participants of the project are international students from Danmarks Teknisk Universitet, the same university where I studied: Merche (Spain), Priya (India), Khalid (Oman), Doris (Norway), August (Denmark), Pei (China), Michael (Ireland), Sara (Kurdistan) and Hörtur (Iceland).

Technique

The portraits were taken in 35mm black and white film and enlarged in single weight fiber based paper. Once dry, the prints where cut in both vertical and horizontal stripes and new portraits were generate by waving the stripes. Once new individual portraits were generated, all of them were weaved together to create a continuous piece of 180 x 26 cm.
